SEO | Important Facts
- Make sure you get your keywords right. Your keywords should be exactly what you do and not who you are.
- The content on your website must be relevant to your service or product. Potential clients don't really care about your life story they either want to buy something from you or use your service.
- If you are using images on your website make sure your web developers are putting 'Alt tags' on all of them. If you ask them the question and they ask why, walk away as they obvously don't know what they are doing.
- Move with your market place. Make sure you can add to your keywords at any time. Inevitably your market place will change and if you don't change with it you will be left behind.
- Remember, its your website, it's your business. Don't be taken for a fool and you must educate yourself before talking to an SEO company because if it all goes wrong the responsibility lies with you. SEO is sometimes seen as a bit like the second hand car salesman scenario and it is because of the amount of people that have been ripped off. It's really simple, base your descisions on common sense and proof, if they are as good as they say they are let them prove it.
Common SEO Mistakes
- Don't sign up to something where there is no get out clause for you. Most SEO companies say pay us now and we'll work on your website and hopefully you will see some results in about 3 months time.

- When you engage an SEO company ask them to clarify for you how many clients they have lost in the previous 12 months. You don't want to speak to clients they have now because you don't know if they are friends of the company. The reason you want to speak to old clients is to establish why they are no longer using the company.
Use your common sense. If the promises are big and the cost is low it's probably too good to be true.

Looking back to 2006 (Information ref: www.accuracast.com)
- Total number of search users has grown by 10% over the last year, while Google's user base has grown almost 2.5 times in this period.

These statistics are a couple of years old now, but the Internet hasn't slowed down. In 2008 the number of domain names registered in the United Kingdom topped 7 million. Domain names are now seen as a real asset and some companies will even raise you a mortgage on the value a domain name has.
